Audience Feedback:
As I have carried out a few different methods of audience feedback, I was able to gain some information on how the audience feel I can change this music video. The audience suggested that I change a few things in my promotional video and they are; change the static shot of the wall, colour correct to help with the narrative, and add some more informational text. The reason they suggested that I should change the wall shot is that it is quite static and it doesn't go with the flow of the rest of the video. So if I was to add the animation in other places like a moving shot then this would follow with my planned content and allow me to create a more professional looking video. They also suggested that I change the colour grading to help explain the narrative further, this is because there are two different narrative locations in this sequence (real life and the dream world). Having a duller colour grade will help represent this real life aspect whereas having the bright and colourful grading will ensure that the audience are able to define between the two different locations set in this sequence. The final suggestion was to add some more text which will give out information about the music artist. This is because the video should be promoting the music artist and the song that they have created, so the audience need to have a way to find the song and artist once they have watched the video.
The changes I have made:
The first thing which I changed was the static wall shot, this shot stood out as it interrupted the flow of the sequence and really had an impact on the overall image. This shot had some animating flowers on it, however, these were not very lifelike and were quite unrealistic as they were on a static wall. So in the online edit, I decided to have them tracked on a wall as the camera follows the character. I will make it look as is if they are appearing as she walks past to it continues with the theme of the 'Dream' type world.
The second thing I changed was the colour grade, I decided that I should have two different grades for the two themes of the sequence. The first theme of the sequence is the 'real life' aspect, where I portray what real life looks like. I decided to give this a dark blue tone as this will represent the reality of life. As for the 'Dream world', I have given this a different colour grade to help split these to locations in the narrative. This colouring is more green and colourful so it represents the un-realistic aspect I am going for.
The final thing I changed was that I have now added Sound Effects to the sequence. I recorded these sound effects whilst on shoot but I decided to add them to the final version as I believe that this will increase the reality and professionalism of my sequence. Sound effects which I used are Water sounds and also wildtrack I recorded in the forest. I think that this gives my overall piece a greater depth and more of an atmosphere.

M3: Justify the visual and audio effects used within the promo
I used a few different visual and audio effect when creating my Music video, there are many reasons for the use of these effects which apply to the target audience's needs and the clients as well as meeting the codes and conventions of an Audio - Visual promo.
Visual Effects:
Text: I have used text in this sequence, this is done for the titling of the video and so the audeince can know who created the song. The style is quite dream like which will help to promote the consept of the video. The text in this video slowly fades in and out from eachother to help to connote this meaning again. This is used twice in this sequence, one for the name of the song and the other is for the name of the creator of the song (music artist). This is done to promote the song and the artist. |
Animations: I used animation a lot in this squence, this is to help connotate the 'dream world' the character is experiencing. These animations are done in cartoon style to promote this ideology. They also have a life of their own to symbolise that the character doesn't have control like she does in the real world. This again is to help symbolise the two different worlds she is experience and the message of the video which is trying to come across. |
Traking Animations: I used tracking in this shot of my sequence, this is again to promote the 'Dream world' the character is experieinceing. I tracked different animated flowers again for this connotation. I made it look like the flowers are appearing as she walks past to show that she is the focus of this story. This also shows that this is shown from her perspective so we as an audience can understand that this is an altered reality or dream. |
Colour Grade: The colour grade has deep meaning behind it, I chose these colours for again both aesthetic and meaning. The meaning behind the colour grade is again to represent this split reality, between the character's dream and the reality she experience. The shots where we see the character in the 'real world' use a dark and blue toned colour grade, this is to represent the dull life she lives. And the shots where the character is experiencing her 'dream' are brightly coloured and use a very green tone. This helps the viewer to further understand this split narrative and they will therefore get a larger understanding of the overall concept of the sequence. |
Audio Effects:
This is the music for the video. This is very needed in my sequence as this is what I am actually promoting. This is what the entire video is baised off so all of the content will revolve around this song. The song is very simple but it does also include effects in it. These effects are intergrated into the storyline, for example; the end of the song fades out into white noise and voices, this is when the video fades of the 'dream world' the character is experienceing and then goes back into the reality of her world. |

I used two of my own sound effects in the sequence, they were both wild track recorded on location. These consisted of forrest sounds and the sounds captured by the waterfall which you can see in the video. These sounds helped to give the sequence more depth and make the entire video seem more life like and realsistic. I believe that using these sound effects has made the entrie video more professional and ensured that the target audience's and client's needs are met. |
