D2 - Evaluate the flow of programme content and audio levels
How successful was the running order of your planned new radio programme?
I think that the flow of my Radio Documentary was quite good, I think that the Presenter mixed with the Musial elements really complimented each other. I feel that my programme had a nice pace, with obvious sections throughout the documentary. The different songs I used in the music bed really enhanced the documentary as it allowed the audience to gain information but listen to music create by Tyler as he is being discussed. I think that uses of Codes and Conventions in my documentary enhanced the flow of my production as I used Music Beds, Music, Outros ect. I believe that the combinations of all of these elements and the running order of the show created a conventional successful radio documentary.
Was all the content included relevant and did all of it work well? Discuss this point and give evidence from the finished recording.
I think all the content I used in my Radio Documentary was quite relevant to the topic, this is because I used content created by Tyler and all the information which was provided was about him and his music. The songs I used were from his most recent album and they help to portray emotions and meanings behind what the presenter was saying in the show. During Post-Production, I felt that the use of music bed along with the voiceover as they complimented each other really well. I feel like the use of the music will really interest the audience as they are able to gain information whilst being entertained by the music. In regards to other content in the show, ie the interview, I feel this worked quite well as I got a perspective from a fan of the artist. This is also who the target audience for the show is so they will feel as if they are being represented successfully and they will have a larger connection with the produced show.
What do you feel were your key strengths during the making of this production?
What do you feel were your key weaknesses during the making of this production?
How do you feel you performed during this project?
I feel that I had performed very well when I was creating this project. I believe that my pre-existing knowledge of the artist really helped me to create a professional and creative radio documentary. Having this knowledge I was able to quickly source relevant information and I was able to create content like an interview with the pre existing information I already had. I feel that my brief knowledge of creating a radio production didn't hold me back when I was creating this documentary. I was able to create a professional sounding production as well as creating a product which suited the client's brief and the target audience's needs.
Looking back on your short production what would you revise or adjust to make the programme better fit the codes and conventions and make the overall programme better?
I think there are a few things I could have done to improve the overall production to fit the codes and conventions of a radio documentary. Firstly, I feel having had a wider knowledge of the audio editing software would have allowed me to uses different tools and effects to increase the professionalism of my program. Another thing I feel would improve this programme would be to get some interviews with relevant people to the concept. This would be people like producers, affiliates or even Tyler himself. This is a key convention which I missed out on, if I had a larger budget for the production of this, something like this will be more possible and therefore I would be able to create a product which is more suited to the codes and conventions of a radio documentary. Another way to ensure that my product follows the codes and conventions would be to change the presenter of the show. As the presenter of the show is currently quite young then this will oppose the codes and conventions of a radio documentary. Usually these programs have an older monotone voices instead of a young voice. Doing this would improve the overall quality of my production and make it better, but it will also be following the codes and conventions of a radio documentary if I was to do this.

What do you feel were your key strengths during the making of this production?
- Pre-Production: During the Pre - Production process, there were a few elements which went very well and I feel I executed professionally. I believe that my research and planing documentation were my key strengths during the Pre - Production. Research went very well as I am already a fan of Tyler, the Creator and his work, so I had an advantage and I had some knowledge already built up so I was able to build on that. The planning documentations went very well too because even before I started planning the show, I had already got an idea on how I wanted the show to be laid out and what the overall sound should be like.
- Production: During the production process, there were again a few specific elements which I feel went better than some of the other parts. A strength of my production process would be the actual recording, this is because I was familiar with the recording software (Logic Pro), so I was able to quickly record my program with minimal time taken. This overall improved the production time and allowed me to get to the post production segment quicker.
- Post Production: I decided to edit my production in audition, which is a program which I am not very familiar with, considering this I was still able to edit and produce a professional sounding production and I was able to create a product which follows the client brief and is suited to the target audience. I believe a key strength of my Post - Production process would be my use of the music beds. This really enhanced the overall sound quality and professionalism of my production.
What do you feel were your key weaknesses during the making of this production?
- Pre-Production: I feel a key weakness I had when going through the pre-production of my radio documentary was that I didn't record the Interview and Vox Pops before I started production. Had I done this, I would have been able to precisely plan the exact times of the show so I would know how long the overall process should have taken. Having known this I would have been slightly more productive and the overall process would have gone a lot faster.
- Production: One weakness of my production process would be that the software kept on crashing when I was recording. This was quite an issue because the recording would suddenly stop halfway through the recording so I had to keep an eye on the computer monitor whilst talking into the microphone. If the computer stoped recording I would have to go back to the program and reset the recording so it would start from the current section of the production. This would take up a lot of time but I managed to overcome this weakness of my process.
- Post Production: As the software I used for the post - production for this project was a software I hadn't used before, I feel a weakness of this process would be that I wasn't able to use the program to its full potential. This means that if I was more familiar with the program then I would have been able to create a more professional sounding final production.
