P1 - EXPLAIN THE MEDIA MARKET FOR DIFFERENT NEWS PROVIDERS
Providers of the News:
Here is my spider diagram which shows different News Providers for Print, TV, Radio and online.
News Providers:
Online: There are many different online news providers. Some which do both online and another form of new (e.g - Print). A company which does this is The Sun, they have a print publication which is provided everyday and a website which is updated all the time.
Some companies have only got an online presence. For example, The Huffington Post is a company which does this. They are constantly updating their website with news. They don't provide any other form of news and can only be found online.

Citizen Journalism – We Media
Ways in which an audience can contribute to the news:
• People can send their own news to news companies. If it is important news or news worthy, they may show it.
• People can also post their own news or mainstream news on social media.
• They can comment on the websites of the news companies and have their say in the matter.
• The use of We Media is great, as it allows them to produce their own news article.

Example of the BBC allowing you to share a story
How can news be created and shared by amateurs?
News can be created and shared by amateurs because of the We Media websites, these allow anybody to upload their own news for the world to see. If you are popular on these sites, people can subscribe to your feed and they will receive notifications when you upload an article. Any one is also able to comment on your reports, and some websites allow users to edit the report. these websites are known for the fact the news is non*bias, they are not changed by the news company to fit their need, simply because there isn't one.

M1 - COMPARE AND CONTRAST THE BENEFITS OF USING DIFFERENT MEDIA PLATFORMS
News Story: London Attack 22nd March 2017
Contrast the ways a Citizen Journalists and Social Media might present a major news story compared to an official news app and newspaper.
Social Media:
On Twitter, the news that is desired to be viewed has to be searched. You have to type in what it is you want to see, (e.g- #Londonattack) and it will come up. There is also a trend bar on the left where you can see what is big in the world of twitter. This news story was worldwide and managed to get into the trending bar. Big news companies like Sky can post on twitter, they often do and this is a way for users to get more accurate news.
Users can do a few things with the tweets that they see. You can like the tweet which just inform the tweeter. You can also retweet the tweet, this will show the tweet in your friends feeds and they will see that you have shared it. This way you and your friends can discuss, like or retweet the post. Finally, you can reply to a tweet where the original tweeter can see your message and also other people looking at the post. Sometimes you can interact with the tweeter and others who see the post.

Citizen Journalism:
On most citizen journalism websites the newest post are at the top of the feed. You can also search for what news stories you are looking for by names or dates. However, it can be quite hard to find a news story which you are looking for as Citizen Journalism websites don't have much coverage of the news. You can usually interact with the news post with comments on it and sometimes you are able to edit the post. You are also able to share some posts on places like social media or embed them into your own website. This way it provides the Citizen Journalism website with more recognition and people can see the news story.
What are the benefits for citizen journalists and users like you of communicating this way?
There are a few benefits for Citizen Journalism, they are:
The stories are open for everyone. Once a story is written, you can then comment on the story. Some sites even let you add to the original story. This is a benefit because it means that once the story is updated, you may add to it. Also, it can make it more accurate because it includes multiple inputs.
Another advantage is that you can discuss a news post with others. People with different opinions, as these sites don't have a specific target audience, anyone can have an opinion. The story is available for anyone to see and anyone to post.

Official News App:
A major news app presents the news differently to the way a social media or Citizen Journalism app does. This is for many reasons. For example, Channel 4 isn't bias whereas most social media posts are through the opinion of the person who wrote the post. Channel 4 also includes more professional photos and videos as its their job to produce these in a professional way. The language also differs between the apps, this is because Channel 4 needs to be formal as it has a professional approach. Whereas social media posts have spelling mistakes and sometimes in inaccurate.
What are the benefits for the news broadcaster?
Channel 4:
There are many benefits for the news broadcaster. For example, Channel 4 has many ways of displaying the news and a wide range of reaching its audiences. Channel 4 distributes its news by: TV Broadcast, an App and their own Website. What's good about having all of these is that they can use all of these outlets to distribute their news to a wide and varied audience. For example, a stereotypical older person wouldn't have a smartphone so they would view their news via a TV. But, a younger person would have a smartphone and it would be more convenient for them to view their news via an App.
Another advantage of having an App and a Website is that you can update it instantly, this means that you get breaking news and this is better for the audience.
The Sun:
The sun is significantly less formal than most news companies. This is because the target audience is different, they aim for young lower class people. There are more photos to make it easier for their audience to understand as well. It is quite similar to social media in the way that it shows news, it mostly focuses on the shocking news and what would appeal to a younger generation. The Sun sometimes includes humor in its titles as well as shock, this is so it engages the reader and keeps them reading.
The Independent:
The independent is the most formal news distributor in this list. Their language is very formal and it is more written based rather than pictures and video. This is because their target audience is Upper Class with people aged 25+. This is very different to Social media and Citizen Journalism news sites, as their audience are different. The titles are big but they aren't misleading like most are in the sun and social media. Their news also makes the reader think more for themselves and forces the reader own opinion.
The independent distribute their news in 3 ways, they have a Newspaper, an App and a Website. An example advantage would be: A stereotypical older person wouldn't have a smartphone so they would view their news via a Newspaper. But, a younger person would have a smartphone and it would be more convenient for them to view their news via an App.
