Executive summary:
Aims of product:
The aim of my program ‘Catch Me’, is to entertain my target audience, this will be done by developing characters and locations with gripping stories and deep dark themes. As my show is to be created for BBC 3, I need to ensure that the drama genre is applied to this product as this is a key genre for this broadcasting platform. I also need to ensure that my programme follows the remit of the BBC, which is to ‘Entertain, Educate and Inform’. As this remit states, I need to ensure that my programme has these stated aspects, entertaining them throughout the intense storylines, educating them via the realistic issues and settings which are going to appear in the show, and inform the audience with all the issues that already exist.
Outline of ideas:
As for the outlines of my ideas, I have decided to go for a few different themes. The key element for the show will be the gang culture and life of teenagers being brought up in rough areas of England. This will include different sub-topics such as drugs, violence and territorial areas. Other ideas for the show include deep character development via relationships to other characters, these can be in forms of friendship, family or romantic relations. As the characters change through the program, so will the different relations and how they lay out, this will allow us to play with the audiences’ own emotions, be dramatic changes, having the audience to empathic for the characters on the screen. In end creating the want for the audience to discuss these issues with others and promote the show. Another key idea would be to represent the harsh realities of the teenage life as of right now, this means that the target audience will have an instant attachment to the show as some of the audience could relate to what is being shown. Ideas such as education, parties, work, family life and general teenage behaviours will all be demonstrated in this show.
Synopsis:
The show starts of following one characters life, who is battling between the choice of joining his friends in the ‘gang culture’, or focus on his education and go to a good university. Sub characters try to influence his decisions, teachers who do/don’t believe he can make it, friends who tell him to join them in the ‘Gang Culture’, and others who try to help him focus on getting a professional career. The program will eventually develop over the series each characters life, focusing on different characters in different series. Each series will start from the same point in time, and will feature a new main character every new series. But all the episodes/series are set in the same timeline and the stories all develop throughout.
Style:
I want this drama to be set very recently, in London. However, I want a twist to usual teen dramas, I want this to be shot on film, and have a grunge feel to it. This aesthetic will help procure the dark themes set throughout the series and also convey the emotions of the characters in Catch Me. The series will be shot in 4k at 24 Fps, which is standard for movies and TV series now, this means that there is clarity in the footage and the audience understands depth used in the shots. I plan for the lighting to be typically dim, again conveying the themes, but I will use brighter lighting where necessary.
Soundtrack:
The soundtrack should be quite simple. I will have a theme tune which will play in the intro, and will be sampled throughout the episodes. I will also use other music which will help set the scenes or convey emotions in the sequences. I will use songs which people may know, which will attract the audience more, but alongside songs which are just atmospherical.
Statement of need:
Unique selling point:
The USP of this teen drama will be how gritty and grungy the show will be showing the harsh realities of being a teenager surrounded by drugs, violence and crime. I will ensure that this will be a theme throughout the drama and that the audience understands that characters and locations like this actually exists and some of these issue could happen to anyone.
Target Audience:
The target audience for my show will be teenagers aged 16 - 21, and male. This is so I can follow the client brief for BBC 3. With some of the topics included in the series, the program should also appeal to a mass audience as I am to have content which will relate to a larger audience. The target audience for BBC 3 is people aged 16 - 34, and this is important information as this is the platform the show will be distributed on. I will aim for my product to be distributed on other platforms such as Netflix, which is also a platform which is created for people of the same target audience.
Product description:
Each episode will run for 1 hour long, and the first series will consist of 8 episodes. Each episode will consist of a news characters struggle and their perspective in relation to the topics being discussed, whether this be school, friends or the gang related content.
Budget:
The budget for this series is about £50,000. So to ensure that this budget is not exceeded, I will hire actors which aren't well know and this means that they will be cheaper for me to have. Also, I will shoot sets on location as this will be cheaper, this is because these locations are big so therefore I will need to ensure the budget is kept to a minimum.

Examples of exiting products for inspiration:
Riverdale:
Riverdale is an American teen drama which consists of themes such as murder, schooling and other themes which are similar to the planned content of my show. I can draw inspiration from the way that this show is filmed and created, the way that it creates stories and the way all the characters are interlinked with each other.
Marketing and Distribution:
I will market this programme as a teen drama with crime and tension, alongside the harsh realities of life in East London. This will intrigue my audience as to what I am creating. I will market this programme over social media to help promote the content and get users to share what they are seeing. This will also be shared on the BBC Three's social media as they will be the ones who are distributing the show. Distribution will be on the BBC 3 platform and this will allow the audience to stream the show whenever they want.

Detailed Plot Outline:
The show will begin form Charlie's perspective. We start off with the morning of the first day back from school. Everyone has just had their summer holidays and they are getting up for school. We see Charlie in his bed just laying there looking at the ceiling. Eventually he gets ready and leaves to go to school. He then progresses to the school field where he meets up with all his friends and then the opening credits begin.
After the credits, we then follow Charlie to his first lesson where he goes to learn English. We see him in his lesson, bored but getting the work done. About halfway through the lesson his phone rings and he tires to hide it. He puts his phone on vibrate and thinks nothing of it. Then it rings again and again and it won't stop. So eventually he asks to go to the bathroom where he goes and answers the phone. It a voice saying meet me at the place now. Then it hangs up.
Charlie then has to figure out a way to leave school, once he has figured it out and he leaves, he makes his way to the location. The surrounding area slowly gets worse and worse with more crime and violence. Eventually, he makes it to a warehouse where he meets an older looking man. Its his dad and he tells him to go an take the drugs from the warehouse to another location.
Charlie then takes the drugs to the location where there are all police surrounding him, he tries to run away and dashes into a forrest nearby. The police are following him into the forrest with dogs and then the screen fades to black. We are left on a cliff hanger waiting for the next episode.

Catch Me - Locations by Oscar JH Carter on Scribd
The locations I have chosen are all selected for specific reasons, the locations I chose for this Teen Drama are:
Firstly, I chose all of these locations becasue of the connections with them and the codes and conventions of a teen drama. They represent places which teenagers are very familar with and are often located. This also means that the target audience will have connections with these locations as they are the same age as the characters are set to be (15 - 21), this means that my show will gain a larger viewership as these locations can attract the audience to the show. And finaly, these locations will be very cheap to shoot at, as they can either be quickly/cheaply created in a studio or they can be actualy filmed at for low costs.
- School
- Apartment Block’s
- Characters Homes
- Local Pub
- Fast Food Restaurant
- Park
- Coffee Shop
- Transportation (Tube, Busess etc)

I had researched many different titles which I created for this show, all having different meaning behind them linking them to the show and the target audience.
This title represents a few different themes in ‘Catch Me’:
The title which is chosen has a few different meanings behind it. Firstly, there is a theme of religion in the title (the cross), this is because there are religious themes which will be present throughout the series, this helps to represent some of the planned characters and themes which will be in the drama. Also, the font type represents another theme which is in the drama, which is the gang culture. The font used is quite typically seen to be used by gangs via Tattoos and Graffiti, so I tried to implement this into my design for the title. The other meaning behind the font is the location, this font is called 'Old English', which represents where this show is set (England).
Also, I tested this title design on the target audience, and their responses suggested that this design is the best out of all the others and it is very attractive. Here are the results for the questionnaire on these designs:

Draft Pitch Document
Catch Me - Draft Pitch by Oscar JH Carter on Scribd
M2: Identify potential client questions and amend pitch and proposal documentation
Presenting the draft pitch:
Feedback and changes:
- Add the BBC3 logo at the top of each slide in the presentation
- Add more of the characters to the presentation
- More bulletpoints on the presentation, then discuss the information instead of reading it
- A slide for the questions at the end
- Need to talk more in depth in regards to the age restriction
- Discuss dramas which are relevant to your show, and what makes yours different
Responses to feedback:
Considering the changes requested by the audience focus group, here is my analysis and response to these questions / suggested changes.
Add the BBC3 logo on the top of each slide:
I think doing this will firstly make my presentation more professional and look as if I have the commissioning company in mind when creating the show. This shows that the client's brief has been considered and that I have considered the requirements for the BBC as well.
Add more of the characters to the presentation:
In my presentation I only have the main character planned for the show. This shows the character's background and basic information about their relationships with other characters. However, as I only included one character the audience found it hard to get a deeper understanding of all of the characters and their relationships with the plot and other characters. I think that if I include some other characters on this slide then the commissioning clients will gain a further understanding on how I want the show to develop and some of the key themes I have set for the show. This will also give them an idea on how to cast the actors and what the requirements will be for the actors of the show.
More bulletpoints on the presentation, then discuss the information instead of reading it:
The audience has stated that I have too much information on my slides and that I need to make it so the slides just contain simple bullet points which I can elaborate on via speech instead of reading from the slide. Doing this will ensure the commissioning clients don't have to read paragraphs off the presentaiton and they can just read brief information and then listen to what I am saying to ensure that the experience is more enjoyable and understandable for the clients watching the presentation.
Question Slide at the end:
If I add a question slide at the end of my presentation, the entire pitch will seem more inviting for the audience and this will allow the audience to know that they are allowed to ask questions about what they have just listened to. Having a question slide at the end will also allow the aesthetic to continue as I could use imagery from the planned content to help connote meanings and themes to be set throughout the show. If I just cut to black and ask if there are any questions this could seem un-professional and this could show that I haven't considered the client's needs.
Talk more in depth about age restrictions:
I think that the key reason that my target audience focus group suggested I talk more in depth about age restrictions for my product is that the content planned for the show could receive a very high age rating, this is because of the themes of violence, gangs and crime. The commissioning clients will want to ensure that the target audience for this show is met and briefly discussing the age ranges will not ensure that they believe the show will be able to be shown to the target audience. If I go into detail about how the show will regulate its content to conform with rulings in place, then the clients will understand how this show will reach the target audience and that the content won't be inappropriate for the audience to watch.
Discuss dramas which are similar to your show and what makes yours stand out:
Having this discussion with the client will ensure that they understand what type of show I plan to create and what I will need to do to ensure that create a show which has an appeal over other shows which have been created. Having a comparison between other shows will show that I have researched the existing market and I have been able to plan a show which is original and will have an appeal to the target audience which the other shows discussed won't have. Doing this will ensure that the client's believe that my show is going to make them money and that they will have a show which appeals to the target audience.
Now that I have got these responses from a target audience focus group, I will be able to create a pitch which will be more catered to the clients and I will include more information which will be relevant for what they need to know. The main reasons that the audience suggested these changes were because they believe that these changes would appeal more to them and also to the clients. With these comments and suggestions, I have been able to change my planned pitch document and what I plan to say in the pitch. This is is the now completed pitch document with the improvements suggested by the target audience focus group:
