About Me...
My first produced on an iPod at the age of 11 was the start of my addiction for creative media production. My passion for the industry has been reinforced through my enjoyment of the CTEC Media course at Sixth From, work experience at Somesuch and Trim, as well as setting up my own production company and the many short films I have created. I know that my creativity, motivation, determination, and interpersonal skills will be fundamental for a future in Media Production.
At secondary school I studied Computing, Media and Music at GCSE level which led me to my first two-week work experience at the offices of Somesuch. Here I learnt how to professionally create and edit a short film in under a 24-hour time constraint. For this, I went into the West End, and filmed inside ‘John Lobb Bootmakers’. I became a runner for a music video shoot, helped cast actors for a mini film, sourced images for a Treatment for Tesco and assisted around the office. I was given the opportunity to spend all day at ‘Framestore’ and ‘Trim’ shadowing various roles. The whole work experience gave me an insight into the diversity of the roles expected when working in the industry. I learnt the need to be multi-skilled, hardworking, sociable, decisive, and organised. As a result, I have since and continue to be employed by one of the directors, to assist him. My earnings enabled me to build my own computer so I can enhance my editing and post production skills. I have completed the Bronze Duke of Edinburgh where I developed my communication skills and have a positive attitude during the planning stages and on the actual expedition. I have also enjoyed performing in a GCSE dance production, performed with SINCRU breakdance group, participated in SOHHA where I learnt Graffiti art, breakdancing skills, Beat box and MC’ing. Currently, I am studying CTEC media which has broadened my knowledge in Film, TV, Web design, animation, app development and pre-production skills. I have had the chance to work on independent units as well as team projects. I understand the importance of ensuring the whole team are aiming for the same common goal and utilise everyone’s strengths while working together to overcome the team’s limitations. I have used various software such as Adobe Premier Pro, Photoshop, after effects and final cut pro. These have provided me with the toolset to help me with my projects and an understanding of their advantages and limitations. Each project has enabled me to develop my ideas as well as critically reflect on my own work. I am organised, methodical, and confident in articulating my ideas. I can give guidance to other crew members as well as receive direction. Through coursework I have been able to use my excellent research and evaluating skills, and show that I have original ideas and can work to a deadline. During the summer of 2017, I procured internships at two media companies:
In the offices at Somesuch, I helped with creating treatments for adverts and music videos as well as preparing my own short documentary about Streetwear in Soho. With a camera, drone and a phone for recording sound, I approached people in the streets of Soho and interviewed them about their style choices and street culture. The film then had to be collated and edited, adding an appropriate soundtrack. Somesuch then uploaded the final piece onto their Vimeo account. Also, I went on a music video shoot shoot where I helped as a runner, this included positioning the equipment, setting up camera shots and preparing the actors for filming. The staff at Somesuch were very complimentary, they said I was "Hardworking, punctual, able to take the initiative, organised and enthusiastic". |
Also, I worked at Trim on a two-day internship. Starting the first day as a runner with basic office and tea making duties followed by observing the editors craft various videos and take on their clients' requests. On the second day, I proceeded to work independently on an edit for a music video, I was given the RAW shots from a previous shoot, which I then visualized how I wanted to edit these shots. My editing process included trimming and crafing the shots together, color grade them, add visual effects and sync the audio to make sure that the final sequence looked as professional as possible. Once completed, my finished sequence was presented to some of the employees where they gave me constructive feedback and tips on how to advance my editing techniques.
Outside of Sixth Form, I enjoy many activities, however swimming is a sport I have pursued and have completed all the ASA National Plan Awards. Through recommendation, I am reading 'In the blink of an Eye', book by Walter Murch and 'The Conversations' by Michael Ondaatje. I am currently working for Scudamores, a punting company in Cambridge, where I have learned the history of the city and relay this to visitors via guided punting tours. My ability to tell stories and understand my audience has been used on many occasions! With my self-motivation, passion to learn, commitment to hard work, I consider myself to be a strong creative student. I believe that studying at university will be an imperative step in reaching my life goals. |
